North Canton Ohio Nightlife

There was a small clothing store called Fisher's, it was in the E. Tusc Walnut and there were birthday parties for kids in the area every Saturday morning. The boys dressed up as Santa Claus and handed out sweets at the entrance, and star singers gathered around the climax and sang. My neighbour Steiner's turned on the lights at Christmas and the boys at Fisher's had a wonderful Splash Party. I almost forgot, but I'm sure there were a lot of people at that party, especially the kids.

I also remember a place called Walkers' Downtown that sold men's clothing for those who could only afford to go to the shops of the Army and Navy. There was a wonderful restaurant called Peter Shears, it was in the building next door and there was an adjacent shop. I was there once or twice a year, and that was the first time in my life that I was there, even as a child.

I understand that it is an old building and many things are out of date, but I also remember how noble Kaufmans used to be. The car dealership where I bought my first car in 1959 was in Walnut and 6th St. NE, and today there is an abandoned structure. I recognized the red mall when I was a kid, there was a red sign for Montgomery Ward on it. I understand that it was not a pleasant experience because it was old and things were out of date.

Does anyone on Cherry Ave NE remember the Redhead gas station, where you could get gas for 19 cents? I was there when it was the Cultural Institute and I remember a lot of good food, but also bad food. There may be something left, but money is difficult in this particular place, with all the costs.
